A View from My Writing Table - February 2025
Glimpses of the magic of each month

This year I am sharing where I find the extraordinary in everyday life in my effort to ensure that magic lives on and thrives for me throughout the year. This View from My Writing Table is an effort to do just that. Magic is all around. It’s in the everyday; it’s in our hearts. Its in the moments that can be missed if not paying close attention. Capturing glimpses from my desk is my way of paying close attention.
There are four phases of winter in the place where I live.
First, it’s just cold, grey, and windy.
The second phase is when the snow comes. Everything is beautiful and white and fresh and it looks so pretty.
The third phase is when the yellow snow outpaces the white snow. This phase, between the pretty white snow and the yellow snow, can go on for a while, switching back and forth, depending on how many snow falls we get. Typically, by the end of February this is over, but we have been known to have snow in March, so we’ll see.
The final phase, when we are sure that the last snow has passed and the last frost has come and gone, and the rains begin, is the mud phase. The mud phase lasts from that moment all the way up until summer, when its hot and dry. It hasn’t begun yet, but soon…

For February, the extraordinary in everyday life really comes down to the nuances. February can be a bit of a tease. There are usually some really lovely temperate days, that are then overtaken by more bitter cold. It’s these stark differences I find so beautiful. It’s like Mother Earth wants to be sure we are paying attention. The little details. The nuances. What do these pictures say to you? For me, its the subtle emergence as expressed through the plants as the reach for light. It’s about stretching, renewal, hope, possibility. It’s also about finding comfort and reassurance within the seasonal cycles, especially in times when so much seems seems in to be flux and in darkness.
Once last picture for you. I did a lot of writing from other locations this month. This was one of my views. I love being able to see people milling about throughout their day, and the geese that come to visit the little pond. I wonder about their lives. Where are they going? What’s important to them? What do they love? What are their dreams? It’s the gentle reminder of the beauty in the everyday, and that we find ourselves in each other.
Take good care and keep stretching for the sun and the possibilities that come with it.
